Here I have collected few presentations about web earnings companies, for small business or individuals. I have added only such sites, that I have experiences with. Links may not be direct to the sites, but to my examples. I’m planning to add new reviews as soon as I get more experiences.
Social media site
At the moment, I see this as an ultimate goal for web 2.0 enterprise. In May 2008 I finally set up my own social media site: Kirnu - for free people. However, this is not something, that you should begin with. Running a social media site is a huge challenge. You should manage: technology, advertising, marketing and be a leader for your community. And you should also have a plan and vision, where you want to go with your social media site. But if you manage with this, it may be so, that you don’t have to do anything else in the rest of your life.
Video:
Revver adds “click ads” to the end of the submitted videos, and pays, if someone clicks the ad. There has also been discussion about adding ads at the beginning of the video, so the submitter would get payed every time, when someone watches the video, but I have not seen this yet. I have not succeed to make money with Revver. Check out the site and my Revver videos.
Metacafe is a video sites, which attracts over 25 million visitors every month. Metacafe is also a virtual society, where people can comment on each others videos and rate them. And if you wish to have a successful video, friends sure can help you.
You can make money in Metacafe by submitting your videos. You must have the copyrights on the video you send, which means, that they have to be made by you. Submitting alone won’t bring you money, but you’ll have to have good rating (over 3) and enough viewers (20 000). I have not been able to make any money yet, so please visit my profile and watch my my videos.
Youtube is a video site, which does not need presentation for itself. At the moment, I cannot make money at Youtube, because it does not pay to it’s (all) members. But Youtube is the best place for you to get viewers for your videos. So you can use Youtube for promotion by making an interesting video about your business or web site, or just by making an interesting video and providing a link to your pages.
Blogging:
NowPublic is a news site, which pays for it’s members for their content they produce. I’m new at NowPublic, so I’ll be writing more about the site later. Check out my site: Pasi.
Newsvine allows it’s members to establish own news column for free. Authors can write articles or seed news links to own columns. Then Newsvine adds ads to each post (article or seed) and authors makes money from the visits at the site - no clicks needed. If you manage to get some popularity at the community, you have good chances to make some money with its. The problem with Newsvine is, that you can be a member over an year and then one wrong seed can get your column deleted without warnings and you loose all your data.
PayPerPost is a site, which pays bloggers for writing sponsored posts. PPP is actually a market site, which connects bloggers and advertisers all around the World. You changes to make money depends on your Google PageRank, Alexa Score, advertisers evaluation about your posts, your location and your blog categories. This far PPP has been the best way for me to make money by blogging. The best thing with PPP is, that you don’t need page views to get payed. You know your reward before making the deal.
SponsoredReviews is quite similar to PayPerPost. At SponsoredReviews advertisers are searching for bloggers too. At SponsoredReviews there is also a small possibility to negotiate about the blogging prices. The good thing is, that there are several possibilities but the bad thing is, that deals are made quite rarely.
Ads:
Google Adsense must be the most common advertising program at the moment. You make the deal with Google and then you place the advertising script on your blog or web site. If someone clicks the ad, you’ll receive you payment. The problem with Adsense is, that you are not payed by the views, but by the clicks. And the payments can be quite small, even $0.01 for a click. I’m quite interested in trying other advertising program with this blog in the future.
Virtual Investment:
Weblo is an interesting combination of virtual investment, social networking, advertising and promotion. It is quite hard to describe, what Weblo is at the moment, and it is not that easy either to predict, what will Weblo be in the future.
Weblo - how to begin
Presenting Weblo: properties
On Weble, there is actually the whole World virtually on sale: You can buy New York, Empire State Building, or www.business.com domain. And one basic way to make money at Weblo is to buy virtual property and sell it with profit. Few other ways to make money at Weblo are:
- Receiving “taxes” from the commerce existing your town or state.
- Receive profits from ads, Weblo puts on your property sites.
- Add extra ads on your properties.
- Add Weblo ads to your other sites like blogs, videos or email.
Photo:
I don’t have that good camera, that I could sell my pictures yet at places like Shutterstock. So this far I have photos only at Flickr, but I do not make money with them.
Blog Directories:
Blog Flux is a directory, where you can add your blog. Before accepting, your blog is checked to prevent spamming. You can categorize your blog more, and if you add Blog Flux scripts to your blog, you can also get statistics about your page. I’ve found statistics useful with my other blog, but I can’t say, if I have got any visitors from Blog Flux.
Don’t forget to increase your blog traffic with Blog Flux Discoverer.
Technorati is a blog directory, where users can claim their blogs. You can also favourite other blogs, and collect RSS from different blogs. Technorati gives each blog a “authority” number, which is supposed to tell, how popular the blog is. After using it several months, I have found, that it has sometimes conflicts with GoogleRank, which means that blog can have a big authority number but low GoogleRank.
Promotion & Seeding:
Digg is a social news site. As a member of Digg, you can seed interesting news, videos and podcasts to the society. If you hit the frontpage, your success is guaranteed. The main categories are technology, World & business, videos, sports, science, entertainment and gaming.
As I said, Digg is also a society, and you can create your won friend list, custom your profile and “shout” to others pages. Members can vote the posts they like and comment on them.
Propeller is very similar to Digg. It’s a society for news seeding, where you can comment on posts, create a profile and make friends. Here’s my Propeller profile.
