After buing iPhones for my sons, I’ve been more interested in mobile phone game development software. I would like to make a simple freeware mobile game, just to see how the markets work.
At the moment there are Android (Samsung), iPhone, Windows (Nokia Lumia) and Symibian phones, where you can make applications. Symbian seems to be going down and iTunes (iPhone) seems to be quite hard market places so I was left with Windows and Android phones.
I was able to found free development software for both platforms, but I thought that Android might be slightly easier to start with.
BTW finding game making software for these platforms was not that easy, so here’s a direct link to the Android game making software blog, where you can download the tools.
I’m going to start to plan a game based on the story of CyberAnt. I have testes AGS earlier, and I’m going use it as a platform for my game. I have categorized planning under following subtopics.
Basic game story, main events
Game Area, the overall map
Characters
Problems, small events
Objects
Voices
Videos, supporting media
Sounds are important part of any game. You can try to make you own sounds, but for example shooting and explosion sounds may be hard to produce.
I was looking for free sounds and I found this talkingwav.com which provides free .wav sounds. There were also several different places, but this one was totally free and easy to use.
Now I finally made it – my first game: Streets of Jyväskylä. I made the game with AGS editor, so many thanks there. Adventure Game Studio is a freeware for making adventure games.
Streets of Jyväskylä is my first game and actually just a demo full of bugs. The idea was learning by doing and it worked. Now I think, I’ll make 2 to 3 more demos and then I’ll start to work with my real game.
The actual story bases on the book, which I have not written yet. In the game you must save the Jyväskylä and find the Lost Book of Pasilaisuus. There has been an accident at University of Jyväskylä Physics labs and you’ll have to fix things.

I’ve been interested in making my own game for a long time. This far projects have ended because the lack of programming skills.
Today I found a web page, which presented game making software. I downloaded Adventure Game Studio, but my demo ended quite soon, because I could not make graphics work with my Vista.
Then I looked more and I found Game Creation Resources. Perhaps I find software with better luck from there.
