If you are planning to establish a blog or a social media site, besides the platform you need the web host.

Choosing the web host is an important issue and first you should consider, what kind of needs you have. With this I mean, that you should know do you need your own domain, how much disk space you need, what is your monthly bandwidth transfer demands, how many email addresses and databases you need and what kind of operating system is provided. And of course, what kind of software is supported (PHP, SQL).

One morning, in the beginning of the April, I noticed, that my Newsvine account was deleted. After the incident I got my account back in a week and only thing lost was my 2000 comments, I had made at Newsvine. I was because now I can cash out my $90 I would have lost, but I still was quite unhappy with the incident, because there were false arguments made about the facts.

However, lets not handle the issue even yet, but let’s evaluate the influence of the incident with few examples. The only way I can get statistics about my Newsvine account is Google Analytics and Alexa, so that’s the reason, why I use them.
Picture. 1) Max Mosley video posted. Before that, pasi.newsvine.com has had 300-1000 visitors every day. 2) Emile deletes my account. 3) I got my account back but not my motivation. 4) Finland wins USA in ice hockey.

Picture. In March 2008, pasi.newsvine.com had 11130 visitors and 14571 views. According to Alexa, 3% of the Newsvine traffic game from my column. This is not correct, but the interesting thing is, that 16.5.2008 it still is the same 3%.

Picture. I’m not sure, but I think this is February & March statistics. So my column is quite Global, but most visitors come from USA. So what is the content, that these Americans search from my column?

Even that I had my account closed for a week, I still had 3738 visits and 5230 views in April. And now, in the middle of the May I have had 2066 visits and 2897 views.

Picture. When my Newsvine account was closed, I opened a column at NowPublic, which has had a raising trend after that as Newsvine has fallen.

Alexa, NowPublic & Finland

Before I had registered at NowPublic, it did not have statistics about Finland at: Nowpublic.com traffic rank in other countries or Nowpublic.com users come from these countries. But now after 45 days, Finland is 10th at country traffic rank, and 2nd at users come from these countries.

Not bad for one person

Now I think I’ve seen it all. I wrote a post to my MySpace blog and then tested it and what happen. MySpace has started to warn users about links outside from MySpace. Just WTF is this. Have everyone just turned to morons? It’s Internet!!! We are supposed to provide hyperlinks to web sites around the World. That the reason it was created in the first place.

I wonder if there really is a need for this kind of warning, or is this just one of those MySpace things…

Now as my blog is over half a year old, I thought that it would be time to evaluate it’s value at business opportunities. I was hoping for bigger sum, that is not too bad.

Now I have something in my mind so lets see after three months.
