Weblo – how to begin

I’ve been Weblo member for four months. I first heard about it from my friend, who had read an article about it from local newspaper. I did not hesitate long and I registered to the site same day and bought my first investments. Beginners problem is, that you may waste your money before you actually now what you want.

I wrote an article about Weblo features earlier, Weblo, virtual investment and now, I’m trying to concentrate more on the social interaction at Weblo. I’m also trying to give some hints for the beginners, so they would not made the same mistakes. I invested about $550 and I have made directly from Weblo only $2.74. I bought mainly from Finland, but also a state from Estonia: Pärnu. I did not have a strategy at the beginning, but after my first investments, I started to build my Empire with different themes.

What should a beginner do, when he/she starts to build own Weblo Empire?

1) Register and check out the Weblo to find out, if you really are interested in.
2) If you still are interested, first buy yourself a membership. I cannot say, which level is the best. If you are there with small money, take the lowest membership first. The idea with membership is, that you get discounts from your purchase and bigger earnings. There is no sense to spend money first and the get the membership. (Yes, I did the opposite way)
3) Make yourself a plan. Don’t buy just everything you like at the moment. You can concentrate on celebrity sites, states, buildings, domains or build a combination, where the components support the entity.
4) Act socially. Weblo is a social network and if you wish to have success, you’ll have to be part of that society. Vote other sites (generously), comment, visit and send messages to others. DO NOT SPAM.
5) Update your sites and build the content. Make the sites interesting. Now, if you have built your Weblo Empire with a plan, there may be a connection between your sites, which makes the visitors to visit several your sites and not just one.
6) Evaluate your Weblo Empire. Try to sell and buy more. Learn more about different earning possibilities at Weblo.

My current strategy at Weblo

Main thing is not make money with reselling my investments. However that would be fine too. I use my sites for marketing my videos and for linking my other sites, which supports my virtual web hybrid. It’s hard to follow, how much I earn with my videos and Newsvine articles indirectly because Weblo, but I must get some viewers from there too. I have also added Weblo ads to your other sites like Facebook and Blogspot blogs.

I try to get my Lapland site more popular and build profiles to my other sites, but I sure could use more time…

When the Revver plugin for WordPress was presented, I downloaded it to my WordPress blog. But when I tried to activate it nothing happen. And because there were no error message, I was not able to do much about it. I checked the requirements with my host and everything were correct.

  • WP version 2.1.3 or greater
  • PHP 4.0.2 or greater
  • curl enabled for php (with outbound access)
  • mail tag enabled for php
  • Earlier this week, I updated my WordPress to version 2.3.1 and I thought, that I should try installing the plugin again. Now I downloaded the plugin from WordPress. This time I was more lucky because now I got an error message:

    WordPress database error: [Table 'cyberat_wrdp2.wp_posts_revver' doesn't exist]
    SELECT SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS wp_posts.*,wp_posts_revver.* FROM wp_posts LEFT JOIN wp_posts_revver ON wp_posts.ID = wp_posts_revver.post_id WHERE 1=1 AND post_type = 'post' AND (post_status = 'publish' OR post_status = 'private') ORDER BY post_date DESC LIMIT 0, 5

    From Revver forum, I found a question related to this, with an answer:

    make sure that the database user you have in your wp-config file has permission to modify the database.

    From my www directory, I found wp-config.php file with information:

    define(‘DB_NAME’, ‘putyourdbnamehere’); // The name of the database
    define(‘DB_USER’, ‘usernamehere’); // Your MySQL username
    define(‘DB_PASSWORD’, ‘yourpasswordhere’); // …and password
    define(‘DB_HOST’, ‘localhost’); // 99% chance you won’t need to change this value
    define(‘DB_CHARSET’, ‘utf8′);
    define(‘DB_COLLATE’, ”);

    So I went to my cPanel X, and to MySQL databases, and I found the user and I configured all the privileges to the database user. But still I received the same error message. Then I sent email to asi (at) revver… and I asked, if they have any ideas. I received this email:

    The db user still doesn’t have alter or create table privileges. The code that’s changing the database is actually core part of WordPress. In cpanel, when you go to the mySQL admin section, do you see “(Privileges: ALL PRIVILEGES) ” next to the username entered in your wp-config file?

    Set all priveleges for that user, then deactivate the plugin and reactivate it. The table should be created for you.

    I did, what I was suggested, but it did not work. However I thought, that I could try removing the Revver plugin directory from my host server and download it again. This is because I had noticed, that WordPress download created different name for the plugin directory (revver/revver-wordpress-video-plugin) and sometimes even this can cause troubles.

    So I removed the plugin directory from my server and replaced with the one downloaded from Revver site. Then I activated the plugin, tested it and it worked.

    Now at the end it’s working, but I don’t know if it was the WordPress version, database user rights, or the plugin directory name or all of them.

    I hope this helps someone with the same problem.
