I just received a link from my friend to Alexa’s Newsvine statistics. And according to those statistics, my Newsvine column, Pasi, is the one, which gets most visitors on Newsvine.

Alexa’s rank is created by the Alexa toolbar, which is available for Firefox and IE. It works, that user install the toolbar to his browser. Then the toolbar gathers information about browser behavior and sends it to Alexa. How Alexa uses this information to create Alexa ranking, is not known.

Installing the toolbar to my browser must have supported my success. Of course I can’t do high ranking alone, so I must have other visitors, and a lot of them, too.

But if you wish, that your browsing supports the popularity of the sites you visit, install Alexa toolbar. And if you are trying to make your blog more popular, you should have done it already.

Revver is a web 2.0 company, which provides it’s members a possibility to earn money by uploading videos. Members will be payed, if someone clicks the ad at the end of their video. Company has planned to add ads at the beginning of the video too, so the member would receive money also, if someone just watches the video. However I have not seen this feature with my own videos yet. Paying is done by PayPal.

At the Revver frontpage you can see videos by three category: 1) most watched, 2) editor’s pick and 3) recently added. You can also search videos by keywords or member names and there are also popular collections available.

For a member Revver provides a dashboard, where members can manage their videos, collections and check the video analytics. You can check out, which videos are most popular and most productive.

To make money, you don’t have to upload your own videos, but you can also try to make money by sharing videos. This means, that you embed videos or links to videos at you own blog or website.

From the February, I have uploaded 40 videos, but I have not made even $20 yet, which is the lowest amount to be payed for member. So Revver, please more ads at the beginning of the videos and higher revenue.

And here’s my favourite video: Midnight Sun captured at the Midsummer night, at Ivalo, Finland, above Arctic Circle – enjoy. Or check all my Revver videos.

I’ve had Google Analytics on my web site (Virtual Storage). Besides Google Analytics, I have used Your Counter and IPstat.  And after using several months for them, you could say, that I can evaluate their results.

Yesterday I noticed at IPstat, that I’ve had visitors from India. This is not that common, so I became interested in, what is this about. From the Your Counter, I found out, that visitors from India, were coming to my site by Google search. I also found out, that there were totally four visits from different IPs, with google.co.in/search?hl=en, but neither IPstat or Your Counter, does not tell, which were the keywords used with searches. So I went to Google Analytics to find out it. I was quite disappointed to notice, that there was not a single visit registered during that time (21.9.2007).

As I compared IPstat and Your Counter, I did not find conflict with data, though Your Counter seems to provide information a little later than IPstat. So the problem seems to be with Google Analytics.

It seems, that I’ll have to study this more, but meanwhile my trust on Google Analytics is quite low. I wonder, if there is some kind of intelligence in the analytics, and it does not work well in every situation.

Your Counter Google Analytics - India

Pictures: Visits from India can be seen at Your Counter, but not at Google Analytics.

Now days there are several different kinds of counters available, even for free, to you web sites. With different kinds of meters, counters and analytics, you can follow the visitors of you web site and gather important information.

Now the issue just is, what kind of information you need for. Some may be happy just with the volume. Some may be interested in, how the visitors end up to your page. And third category might be, which part of the World the visitors of your site come from. If you wish to know more, you can read one example: Web site counters & analytics. The article presents different kinds of meters and information, which these meters provide.

I’ve been Newsvine columnist now for seven months with my column Pasi. First three months went by practicing, but then I noticed the “earnings” feature and I realized, that I can actually make money at Newsvine by writing articles and seeding news.

Writing articles means, that you write an article about something and Newsvine adds ads to your article. The most typical categories are World News, U.S news, Sports, Politics, Tech, Entertainment, Science, Business, Health and Odd news. Readers can vote your article or comment it. And the more popular your article gets, the more viewers you will get and the more money you make.

With seeding news, the idea about making money is quite similar. However you don’t post the whole article from other site to your column but a link and your own intro to the article.I think, that Newsvine is OK, but I sure would like to get a bigger paycheck for my work. If I evaluate my effort with my income, my earnings might be $1 for 1 hour.

Other valuable thing with Newsvine is, that you might not make that much money with it, but you sure will learn important things about web 2.0 earnings from there.
